Safety Officer
Section
71 of the Factories Act (Chapter 104) requires that the occupier of any factory
within a class or description specified by the Minister for Manpower, employ a
competent person to act as a safety officer in the factory.
The
safety officer employed shall be appointed and employed on a full-time or
part-time basis as specified in the order for the purpose of exercising general
supervision of the observance of the provisions of the Factories Act and any
regulations made under the Act and to promote safe conduct of the work generally
within the factory. The safety officer shall possess such qualifications or have
received such training as prescribed by the Minister.
